She's So Cheap!

She's So Cheap!

an obsession for beauty bargains

Sorry I’ve been away for a few weeks. My car broke down and I had to get another one, so looking for make-up bargains was a little low on my priority list. But I’m heading to the city tomorrow and I’m excited to look around for some new things to blog.

got2b - kinkier, gloss ‘n define Curl Cream
$4.99 on sale at Shopper’s Drug Mart
Rating: 3.5 / 5
My hair is naturally wavy and to be honest I rather like it that way. I never really got into the whole straight iron trend because I really like my waves. So I need a really good product to keep my hair looking smooth and frizz-free. I use to use Potion 9 by Sebastian, but this made my allergies flare up and it was also pretty expensive. So I need to use products that don’t have too much of a scent which can be hard to find these days. I thought I would give this got2b kinkier a try because it was on sale.
At first I wasn’t happy with it because I applied when my hair was almost dry and what I learned is that this product works best when applied to wet to damp hair. I like it and I am using it but after a few hours, I noticed that my hair is quite tangled. I think it’s the product ‘pulling’ on my hair in a sort of sticky way and this causes it to tangle. The most perfect thing I tried on my hair was Morrocan Oil but the scent made me start coughing and until I can get it unscented then I’m still looking for that perfect product for waves. I’ll use this up and then try something new but overall it’s alright. I’m not raving about it but I’m not disappointed either.

Essie - Full Steam Ahead
$5.99 at Winner’s
Rating: 5/5
I absolutely adore this colour! It’s a very fantasy-like colour that reminds me of mermaids or fairies. I recently saw that they sell Essie nail polish at my local Shopper’s Drug Mart for $11.99 and I was so shocked! So to find this for $5.99 is such a bargain. I don’t think I’ll buy a full price Essie polish ever, I’ll just keep searching for cheap finds. We don’t have to pay full price to look beautiful!

The Battle of the Lip Glosses!
Top swatch: E.L.F - Super Glossy Lip Shine SPF 15 in Strawberry, $1.75
Middle: E.L.F - Hypershine Gloss in Fairy, $1.75
Bottom: Wet n Wild - Megaslicks in 568, $0.64 cents
For myself when it comes to lip gloss, whether a gloss is sticky, seems to be my number one factor in choosing my favorites. Then it is how long it lasted, then color pay off, then the packaging.

My favorite from the three of these is the E.L.F Super Glossy Lip Shine. After you apply it, it warms to your lips and feel very smooth. I don’t think lip glosses were really meant for long wear to begin with, but this lasted for a few hours before I felt I needed to reapply. The applicator is also very easy to clean. For color, as you can see it is very opaque but it has pretty flecks of glitter in it which I liked because it makes your lips look extra shiny. I plan on wearing this over some lipstick for some layering.

The worst was the E.L.F Hypershine. I found this to be really sticky and uncomfortable. It made me smack my lips a lot in hopes of smoothing the gloss a bit but it just got stickier and therefore came off quicker. I’m also not sure I like the applicator which is a brush that you push the gloss up into. You would have to clean this a lot to keep it hygienic. I won’t be buying this again and I don’t think I’ll wear it much, if at all.

My middle pick is the Megaslicks. It’s a little on the stickier side, I’d say somewhere in between the E.L.F. glosses. It does have the best color pay off though, I have to say that is a plus! When I tried to wipe it off my hand it did stain, so that says it’s not going anywhere. I’ll probably wear this from time to time. The applicator is a wand though, so this makes it harder to keep clean.

I’m still on the hunt for the perfect lip gloss though. So I’ll do a part two to this one day!

I’ll have some new posts tomorrow on lip glosses and a hair product I’ve been trying out!

The Bargain Shop Haul

I found a 75% blowout sale on Wet n’ Wild items. As you can see, I bought 8 items for $5.90! I am keeping the three lip glosses in the top left corner and the blush, but the other items will be for a giveaway (along with the ELF nail polish remover pads). We’ll see what other items I can find for dirt cheap to add to the giveaway.

Nail Polish in Caribbean Frost .44 cents (the last one)

Eyeliner in Purple .44 cents

Megaslicks Lipgloss in Sun Glaze & Strawberry Ice .64 cents each

Blum Naturals - Daily Cleansing & Makeup Remover Towelettes
$5.99 at Winners
Rating: 5/5
This is my first time trying these and I love them! They have not irritated my skin in any way and they remove make-up very well. I even use them just to freshen up when I am not wearing make-up. If I see these again then I will be buying a few.

e.l.f. Studio 11 Piece Brush Set
25.99 at Winners
Rating: 5/5
I just happened to find this under a bunch of random things in the beauty department and it was the last one there! Besides the box being a little damaged and worn, the brushes were all there. If I went to the e.l.f. website and bought each brush for $3 and the case for $12, this would have cost me $45. They sell the set there for $30 currently. So to me this is a steal! I did a lot of research on brushes and many people talk about the e.l.f. brushes, so I was happy to include this in my make-up collection.

Essie - Mod Square
Essie - All In One
$6.99 each, bought on sale at Shopper’s Drug Mart
Rating: 5/5
This is my first time using Essie. I heard good things about the brand and I fully agree that it’s amazing. I have to admit that I find it a bit pricey at full price so I’ll be keeping my eye out for this brand on sale from now on.
Mod Square is such a vibrant and cheerful shade of pink and I really enjoyed wearing it on my feet. I was a bit worried about the All In One base and top coat but it worked really good. A week and a half after applying, there were no chips and it just started to wear a bit at the tips (but it’s not like someone is inspecting my feet that closely anyway). If you see this colour, I would snag it! Next time I will make sure to take a picture but since this is a new blog I didn’t think of it.

e.l.f. - Nail Polish Remover Pads
$3.75 at The Bargain Shop
Rating: 1/5
I really wanted to like this product but it totally failed. The pads are very flimsy and awkward to handle. It took me a long time to remove my nail polish! I finally gave up after the second nail and started using a different nail polish remover with cottons pads and it was much quicker. However, I did like the citrus-scent and the packaging is great. I’ll use up the rest of these and reuse the container for something else, but I won’t be buying these again.
